Confined within the historic walls of Intramuros, Fort Santiago served as a fortress to the defence army as well as a jail for the prisoners of war during the Spanish regime and World War II. Designated as a National Historical Landmark, it is now a public museum housing several ruins, museums, replicas, and similar attractions.
